Mea Culpa,
      August 2006

To the owners
of the cottage
on the rocks
at the shore
of Clark’s Cove
where we stayed
in Walpole, Maine –
I apologize.

It is I
who stole
from your bed-
room bookcase
William Carlos Williams,
Selected Poems.

How can I ever
repay you?
It’s the best
thing I
ever stole.
