Onslaught at the Louvre: July 22:1400 Hours

how they charge you
marching in regiments
each standard bearer
flag furled aloft
Japanese/German/American
troops mass in behind

approach target from all angles
anticipation warms the air
breaths quicken
your enigmatic smile in their sights now
capture imminent

from all fronts: surrounded
cameras shoot
flash/flash/flash/flash/flash/flash
conquest complete


 

Kit Zak has retired from years as a college teacher and being a hovering mother. She has recent poems published in the following journals: California Quarterly, The Blue Collar Review, and Avocet Quarterly: A Journal of Nature Poems, A Time of Singing, The Broadkill Review, Jellyfish Whispers, and Newviewnews, as well as five anthologies.
